Shoppers confirm they're at least your minimum age, or type their date of birth. The age is worked out in their browser — leap-day birthdays included — and the date is never sent or stored.

Questions merchants ask
Is this ID verification?
No. It's a self-declared age check: shoppers confirm their age or type their date of birth, and can answer untruthfully. It doesn't check identity or documents, and it doesn't guarantee compliance with any law — you're responsible for the age rules that apply to your store, which sometimes require stronger checks.
What does it store about shoppers?
Nothing on our servers — the storefront script never contacts us. The answer is kept in a first-party cookie on the shopper's browser holding only the age confirmed (such as 21), for the number of days you choose. A date of birth is used only in the browser and never sent or stored.
Will it hurt my search rankings?
Your pages are served exactly as before, to everyone, with all their content — the check is an overlay added in the browser, and search engines are not treated differently. Age checks are a common, legally motivated overlay.
Can shoppers close it with Esc?
No — an answer is needed to continue, so Esc doesn't dismiss it. Keyboard users answer with Tab and Enter. In your theme editor the preview closes with Esc or its Close preview button.
Does it work with my theme?
It's a theme app embed that works with Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn and Horizon. You switch it on in the theme editor; no code is added to your theme.
What about Buy it now buttons with checkout confirmation?
Buy it now and express buttons on product pages start a separate checkout that doesn't carry the shopper's answer, so checkout asks them to go back and check out from the cart. If you use checkout confirmation, hide those buttons on product pages in the theme editor.
Is there a limit on visitors?
No. Every plan covers unlimited visitors and checks.
